What is the difference between HD Ready and Full HD?

‘HD Ready’ is a standard that has been set by the European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Associations (EICTA). Any device with the ‘HD Ready’ logo is capable of processing and displaying high definition signals, and has a native resolution of 720p.

‘Full HD’ is a term often used in marketing materials describing flat screen TVs with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. It’s important to know that ‘Full HD’ is not an industry standard – each manufacturer can have it’s own interpretation of it.

The standard to look for when speaking of ‘Full HD’ is EICTA’s own ‘HD Ready 1080p’ standard. Any device with the ‘HD Ready 1080p’ logo 1 is has a native resolution of 1,080p – the highest possible HD signal. <
